I wasn't into Soundgarden, but this pop-ish rock combo of Rage and Cornell was great to me. Songs like Gasoline, Like a Stone, Getaway Car & I am a Highway off their self-titled album are great tracks IMO, and I always wished they'd see where everything took them. Nothing against Rage and would have supported that as well, but this concert shows how much of an impact they could have. This is a good memory of a once-in-a-lifetime vocalist who not only is a godfather of grunge can could use his voice like an instrument packing it full of power and emotion. You look back to those pivotal moments for rock, particularly the late 60s early 70s and late 80s and mid 90s, and it's interesting to see the parallels of the influence and lifespans in each. Partying too hard or living with the unshakable pain built up from the past, not being able to navigate through fame, it shows what a sensitive time they had. We have far less present artists deaths, but even in say an Amy Winehouse incident there's still that level of extreme pain and facing demons. Not to sound selfish but I'm glad Chris was able to face his long enough to share with the world his art and talents. RIP - I'm sure you, Kurt, Layne and Scott will all have a good laugh when you tell them about the world nowadays.
